THENHIPALAM: After completing 26 years of teaching, noted social critic Mohiyuddin Nadukkandiyil Karassery, popularly known as M N Karassery, retired from the Malayalam Department of Calicut University. His students and co-workers gave him a grand farewell on the university campus on Saturday.

One of the sharpest  ritics of Kerala politics and social issues, Karassery was not just a teacher for his students and friends. The articles and essays he wrote always hit the bull’s eye. Despite being a social activist, he never compromised on his vocation as a teacher.

“No complaints, no worries, I am completely happy,” the gifted teacher shared his feelings on retirement. In his 34 year-long career as a teacher, he has worked at the Govt Arts and Science College, Kozhikode, Government College, Kodanchery, and Government Evening College, Kozhikode.

He completed his MA and MPhil from the same campus under the guidance of Sukumar Azhikode. M N Karassery considers it as a honour to be able to teach where he had been a student.

“I think I have achieved more than what I deserved. I am not bored with what I have been doing for the past 34 years.

But there is a time to give full stop to everything in life,” he said about his career.  He said the campus was more active when there were pre-degree courses.
