Accused in attack on collector surrenders

Kozhikode: One of the prime accused in the case pertaining to the attack on Kozhikode District Collector K V Mohan Kumar by a sand-smuggling mafia, who was absconding, surrendered before the police on Tuesday.

Police recorded the arrest of Ashik, 33, of Mullappally House, Olavanna, who escorted the tipper truck, which unloaded sand on the collector’s car. He surrendered before South AC K R Premachandran. Ashik is the owner of the tipper lorry, which the gang used for smuggling sand. It was in the wee hours of Saturday, District Collector K V Mohan Kumar and the officials accompanied him were attacked by the sand-smuggling mafia.
