No vigilance probe on basis of anonymous letters: Minister

The State Government will not launch Vigilance investigation on the basis of anonymous letters, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan told the Assembly on Monday.

Answering a question by Babu M Pallissery of the CPM during the Question Hour, the Home Minister said it was improper using anonymous letters to tarnish ministers. According to the Minister, the previous UDF Government, which was in power since 2001, had filed only 51 Vigilance cases while its successor LDF had registered 689 cases.

In a written reply, the minister said that the present UDF Government had registered 114 Vigilance cases after it came to power. The entire question of Vigilance cases had cropped up after Babu M Pallissery questioned the propriety of several ministers continuing in the Cabinet despite having Vigilance cases against them.

The Home Minister replied that the LDF Government had decided to withdraw investigation into 10 cases during its tenure. At present, Vigilance investigation was on against Ministers C N Balakrishnan, M K Muneer, Adoor Prakash, P K Kunhalikutty and Aryadan Mohammed, he informed the Assembly.
