KANNUR: The police arrested a driver of the Fire Force in connection with the murder of Abdul Shukoor, the Muslim League worker who was stabbed to death during the recent political clashes in Taliparamba. Ajithkumar, 43, who was arrested by the police at Kasargod on Thursday, is a native of Morazha in the district.

Employed as a driver of the Fire Force at Kasargod, he was arrested by the special police squad constituted to probe the case.

Abdul Shukoor, 23, was stabbed to death by an alleged group of CPM workers at Keezhara a few hours after the attack on the CPM district leaders including P Jayarajan  at Ariyil last week. Shukoor and his friends had sought shelter in a house at Keezhara which was surrounded by the CPM workers. He was killed as he was trying to escape from the house. The police had filed cases against 60 identifiable persons in connection with the incident.
