The Dubai-based RP Group will start operations in the African continent, RP Group chairman Ravi Pillai has said.

 He told a ‘Meet the Press’ programme here on Thursday that Africa is poised to witness a boom in the oil and gas exploration sectors. 

He said cheap gas was available there and his company had bagged a project for the next ten years. The first project is expected to begin in Mozambique in a week.  RP group has already started operations in the oil sector in Australia, he said.

 The Dubai-based NRI businessman said his core business was in onshore contracting. Asked whether he had any plans to invest in the petrochemical sector in India, he said that it was difficult area for entry as Reliance group is having a monopoly.

He said RP group would open four new hotels, two each in Kerala and Dubai. Of these, one hotel project is in progress in Kozhikode.  The Kozhikode project worth `100 crore will have 75 rooms. It will be completed in eight months.

Ravi Pillai said that the management of  four of his hotels in Kerala including the five-star Hotel Raviz in Kollam would be given to ITC group.  The Raviz will be renamed as Raviz-Fortune or Raviz -Welcome.
