Floods disrupt traffic on AC Road

The traffic on the Alappuzha-Changanassery route was disrupted on Thursday owing to continuing high water level in Kuttanad area.

The police had to divert small vehicles, including two wheelers, cars and other vehicles, on the route to manage the situation. However, heavy vehicles were allowed to pass through Kidangara to Manckachira.

The road was submerged in Kainakari, Nedumudi, Thekkekara, Pallikoottumma, Poovam and Mampuzhakari. The police blocked vehicular service after the flow of water increased on the road on Thursday morning.

The Revenue Department has opened 82 relief camps in the district owing to the fourth round of flood in Kuttanad. Nearly 42,658 people belonging to 10,012 families have been shifted to the relief camps.

Low lying areas in Kainakari, Nedumudi, Chennankari, Thayamkari, Mithrakari, Ramankari, Manaladi, Kainady, Veliyanad, Kidangara, Edathua, Thalkavadi, Muttar and other areas are under water.

Interior roads have also been inundated. More than 20,000 houses are under water. The house of Vidhyadharan in Meenapally paddy polder collapsed on Thursday.

More than 700 houses and Kuppapuram Government High School are also submerged in water.
