Express News Service

Bombay serial blasts convict Manoj Kumar Bhanwarlal Gupta, 47, alias Muhammed Ali or Munna, who was arrested from Athazhakkunnu near here on Wednesday, would be taken to Mumbai on Friday by train.

DySP P Sukumaran said that Munna would be transported to Mumbai and would be produced before the Special TADA court there, which issued an arrest warrant against him on April 18.

Now lodged in the Special Sub-jail here, the serial blasts convict against whom a Supreme Court verdict for full life sentence is pending, will be taken to Mumbai with all necessary security precautions, the officer said.

A CBI officer would also accompany the police team, he added. Munna was arrested from the house of his wife at Athazhakkunnu on Wednesday based on a tip-off received by the District Police Chief.

Munna, a native of Etah district of Uttar Pradesh, had married Rasia of Athazhakkunnu in 2008 in Mumbai.

According to the police, he used to visit his wife in Kannur.

Munna, who is allegedly a close associate of Tiger Memen, the mastermind in the 1993 Bombay blasts that killed 257 persons and injured over 700, had completed his 14-year sentence on charges of involvement in landing arms and ammunition.

He was out of prison since 2007, when the Supreme Court enhanced his sentence to full life term in March this year. He failed to appear before the TADA court to serve the life sentence and the court issued an arrest warrant in April.
