The Bus Operators’ Confederation has postponed its indefinite strike slated to begin on Friday in the wake of an assurance from the state government on fare revision. “Transport Minister Aryadan Mohammad has informed us that Justice M Ramachandran Committee has submitted its report, which includes recommendations on fare revision. The government has promised that it will take follow-up action based on the report,” Bus Operators’ Confederation office-bearers told reporters here on Wednesday. “Fare revision alone will not solve the problems faced by the private bus sector. We hope the government will favourably consider our other demands,” confederation chairman Lawrence Babu said. “After a fare revision in November 2012, diesel prices have risen by Rs 7.50. The prices of lubricants, tyres and spare parts have risen phenomenally. Add to it, a 20 per cent hike in insurance premium,” he said. The confederation submitted a seven- point charter of demands, which include raising the minimum fare to Rs 8.
