The Governor, who is also the Chancellor of Universities in the State, has issued a show-cause notice to MG University Vice Chancellor A V George asking him to explain in seven days why he should not be removed from the post.

The notice comes after a report from Chief Secretary E K Bharat Bhushan recommended action against George over irregularities in his appointment. The report was sent to the Governor in October.

The Chief Secretary’s report had recommended to nullify George’s appointment as he had allegedly misrepresented his credentials before a selection panel. The recommendation came on the basis of a report by Higher Education Secretary K M Abraham.

It said George had not served for 10 years as professor in a University, an eligibility criteria for selection to the VC’s post. In his bio-data, George stated that he headed the Department of Environmental Science at Central University, Kasargod. Soon after his selection, George wrote to the Governor to change designation to ‘Head of Department of Geology And Environmental Science, Christ College, Irinjalakkuda, citing an error.
