People from various walks of life paid homage to poet D Vinayachandran, when his mortal remains were kept for the public to pay respect Town Hall here on Monday evening.

The body was brought to Kollam by 6.20 p.m. from Thiruvananthapuram. His siblings and other family members had accompanied the body from Thiruvananthapuram.

District Collector P G Thomas placed wreath on behalf of the district administration and Chief Minister.

Mayor Prasanna Earnest, Kovoor Kunjumon MLA, District Panchayat president S Jayamohan, Deputy Mayor G Lalu, former Minister N K Premachandran, Panakkad Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal, CPI state assistant secretary K Prakash Babu, RSP district secretary Philip K Thomas, Congress leader Rajmohan Unnithan and various other political leaders and personalities paid homage.

The cremation of poet D Vinayachandran will be held at his home village Kadapuzha, West Kallada, on Tuesday noon.  Sreedevi, Sreekumari, Remadevi and Venugopal are his siblings. Sources close to the poet said that he had expressed desire to construct a house at the property owned by him at Kadapuzha.
