Express News Service

Television actor and dancer Shalu Menon, who was arrested on Friday, was not taken into custody as an accused and so she was brought to the ADGP office in Thiruvanathapuram in a private vehicle for questioning, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said.

“I have inquired about the details of the actress travelling in her own vehicle with the police officials concerned,” the Chief Minister said.

The Chief Minister also said that the law would take its own course in the solar case and those who had done wrong would be punished.

He was speaking to mediapersons in Kottayam on Sunday on the sidelines of a function held at the Press Club here.

Shalu, who was taken into custody on Friday from her residence in Changanassery, was taken to Thiruvanathapuram.

Her arrest was registered at the ADGP office there before she was questioned by ADGP A Hamachandran, who is leading the special investigation team (SIT) in the Solar Fraud Case, in which Biju Radhakrishnan is the first accused.

Shalu was arrested for her alleged involvement in the Rs 75 lakh windmill fraud case, in which Rafiq Ali, a native of Thiruvanathapuram, is the complainant.

Ali had said in his complaint that Biju together with Shalu took Rs 75 lakh from him promising to build a windmill worth Rs 5 crore in Tamil Nadu.

‘Civil Cases were Filed’

The Chief Minister also said that the LDF Government, which ruled Kerala from 2006 to 2011, registered civil cases against the solar fraud case accused.

There were complaints against the accused in the case in the past during LDF Government.

“But, during the LDF regime, only civil cases were filed against them and that helped them to escape. A case (civil) was registered in the Ettumanoor court in Kottayam and mediapersons can check the details,” Chief Minister Oommen Chandy added.
