Once, the word Balussery was synonymous with A C Shanmughadas, the veteran leader who departed on Thursday. As a legislator, he had a special relationship with the constituency which he represented for long 33 years including seven consecutive terms. Though he represented four parties-Congress (I), Congress (U), Congress (S) and NCP during his five decade-long political stint, his mind always stood firm with the people of the constituency. Balussery got a facelift during his term as MLA and minister. The Food Processing and Nutrition Centre, the first-of-its-kind in South India, Community Health Centre with payward facilities, Primary Health Centres in all panchayats, Sub-Treasury Office and Ayurveda Resort, all were set up under his initiative. Besides this, the setting up of KSEB Eranhikkal Division and opening of Employment Exchange at Balussery also materialised because of his continuous efforts.
