Rema: I am proud to be the wife of Chandrasekharan

“I had sincerely wished to marry a real revolutionary and I am proud to be the wife of Chandrasekharan,” said a tearful K K Rema, while recalling the memories of TP on the eve of the first anniversary of his martyrdom.

“I consider myself as a privileged woman since I got a husband like Chandrettan, a real Communist who was highly respected and admired by all,” said Rema, who is busy organising the commemoration programmes by the RMP at Onchiyam on May 4.

In Onchiyam area, many place the photograph of Chandretten at the house when there is a marriage function.

He used to reach all the houses in this place on every occasion, be it a marriage or death or any other function without considering politics and other issues. May be for this reason, he still lives in the hearts of many people, said Rema.

It was in 1994, T P Chandrasekharan, DYFI state committee member, and Rema, a former SFI state leader and Naduvannur branch committee member of the CPM, tied the knot. Rema is the youngest daughter of K K Madhavan, former CPM Balussery area committee secretary and Naduvannur Gramapanchayat president, who has ended all relations with the CPM, the party which had been his life and soul, after the brutal killing of his son-in-law.

“I knew him before our marriage as he used to visit our home as part of party programmes. M Prema, my elder sister, was in the state committee of the SFI along with him. He was a good organiser and an orator, but never aimed superior posts in the party though there were many opportunities. When he was suspended from the CPM owing to the internal conflicts in the organisation also, he had continued his activities and works with people,” added Rema.

He showed an amazing ability to handle both his political activities and family life. Though he was busy with party activities, he gave us equal care.

He was a perfect family man in all means and played well the roles of a husband and a son as well. He took care of  his mother Padmini Amma and used to defer all his engagements and he had to take her to the hospital for check up, Rema said.

“Chandrettan extended his help in the kitchen also. He taught me how to clean fish and  prepare it. He used to buy fish from the harbour in the morning. On the day of his killing too, he had brought fish and cleaned it for cooking before he went outside. I feel that no other woman would get such a good husband,”  said Rema.

Coming down heavily on the CPM, which had hatched the murder plot, Rema added that the RMP has put forward an alternative to the CPM, which has deviated from the Communist ideologies.

“We will spread the flames of revolution lighted by Chandrettan,” she said.
