In a shocking incident, a mother killed her twin babies by slitting their throats. The bodies of the twins were recovered from the bathroom of a house at Kolahalamedu in Idukki on Friday.

The gruesome incident came to light when Narathil Praveen, 21, and his wife Bijeesha, 22, turned up at the out-patient block of the gynaecology department at the Kottayam Medical College Hospital (KMCH) on Friday morning.

“The gynaecologist, whom they consulted, grew suspicious of Bijeesha, as she told the doctor that she had had an abortion and was suffering from profuse bleeding. The gynaecologist noted that Bijeesha was showing signs of a recent delivery, and asked for the aborted fetal material,” Dr Kunjamma Roy, HoD, Gynaecology department, KMCH, told ‘Express’.

Police officials at the Gandhi Nagar station were informed about the suspicious nature of Bijeesha’s account. Sources at the Gandhi Nagar station said that Praveen telephoned and asked his relatives at Kolahalamedu to search the house and its premises, after which they found the dead bodies in the bathroom of the house.

Praveen told the Gandhi Nagar police that he was unaware of Bijeesha giving birth to the babies and their subsequent death.

Dr Roy said that during medical inspection of the bodies at KMCH, it was found that the throat of the babies was slit. She added that Bijeesha was admitted to the hospital due to bleeding and her condition was stable.

Peermade SI K Salim reached Kottayam on Firday night, after which the police began  interrogations to get a clearer picture of how the delivery was performed and the babies killed. During the interrogation conducted at the KMCH, the mother of the infants confessed that she killed the twin babies, Peermade police officials informed.
