Kanyaka talkies in 'India Gold'

The upcoming Malayalam movie Kanyaka Talkies, has been selected for ‘India Gold’, the competition section of the 15th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF).

The upcoming Malayalam movie Kanyaka Talkies, has been selected for ‘India Gold’, the competition section of the 15th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF). 

The film is the directorial debut of K R Manoj, a National Award-winning documentary film-maker. 

The jury, headed by renowned director Shyam Benegal, selected films for ‘India Gold’.

‘Kanyaka Talkies’ has also been selected to the ‘Mumbai film mart’ which introduces the best Indian films to international market.

Asghar Farhadi, an Iranian director who directed films like ‘A separation’ and ‘About Elly’, is the head the jury of the competition section. Joining him on the jury is Siddiq Barmak (of Osama fame). The first screening of ‘Kanyaka Talkies’ will be at MIFF, scheduled to be held from October 17 to 24.

The movie, written by P V Shaji Kumar, Ranjini Krishnan and K R Manoj, revolves around a B-grade talkie in the 80s and 90s.

It depicts a theatre-owner’s plight and how his life goes for a toss as he puts his heart and soul into running the theatre.

The main cast includes Murali Gopy, Alencier Lay, Sudheer Karamana and Lena.
