KAKKANAD: The number of autorickshaw drivers whose licences have been suspended by the  Ernakulam Motor Vehicle Department in current fiscal year has touched 130.

The data collected, till December 5, from the department shows that out of these 130, 90 got their licences suspended due to the drunk driving and the remaining 40 for charging additional fare from the public.

According to RTO M A Shaji the cases of drunk driving has gone down sharply.

“After the liquor policy came to force the number of people being arrested by the police department for drunk driving has sharply decreased. Earlier, we used to suspend as many as 1,000 licence per month but that has now come down to ten or 15 per month,” RTO said.
