‘No Accurate Data on Stranded Malayalis’

The State Government has no accurate data on the number of Keralites who are stranded in Iraq, Norka Minister K C Joseph told the Assembly on Monday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has no accurate data on the number of Keralites who are stranded in Iraq, Norka Minister K C Joseph told the Assembly on Monday.

 As many as 284 persons have been registered in the Help Line launched by Non-Resident Keralites Affairs (Norka). As per details of a survey done by Norka, 763 Keralites have been working in Iraq.

Launching online data bank of non-resident Keralites is under the consideration of the government, the Minister informed the House in reply to a question.

 Using the physical labour of workers registered under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) for constructing houses under Indira Awaz Yojana will be considered. The ombudsman to monitor the MGNREG Scheme will be appointed soon. The former ombudsman ceased functioning after his term was over, the Minister said.  Steps to form a company - Consortium of Retired Experts for Development - for using the services of retired experts for the development of the state has been progressing, said K C Joseph.

Revised Curriculum

The revised curriculum will be introduced in the first year of the higher secondary from  next academic year onwards, Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb told the House.

 Publishing of textbooks for higher secondary students has not been completed in the state, the Minister said.  ENS
