Come summer and it’s time to unpack your heat-friendly attire. Here are some options if you are planning it the elegant way. Fashion comes and goes, but the uniqueness of khadi remains. Highlighting this handspun and handwoven fabric category is the ongoing expo at Khadi Gramodyog Emporium. ‘Urukunna Venalilum Arogyavasantham’, the khadi expo being organised by the Kozhikode Sarvodhaya Sangam and  Natural Life International, has brought out a series of khadi products from fabrics to typical handmade organic products.

Eco-friendly summer clothes with attractive designs printed using the Kalamkari ink from Andhra Pradesh are truly an attraction among the packed 30 stalls. Not at all behind is the demand for natural, ayurvedic, earthen and fancy products. The natural juice stalls have arranged some of the splendid natural refreshments, including jappy, cucumber, amla, mango juices to name a few.

‘’We also have rice products and spices in the organic stalls from Palakkad and Kozhikode and the sale is rather good in those stalls’’ opines a salesperson at the expo who adds that the expo has a more noble intention. ‘’It’s not particularly the sales that we focus on. Through this initiative, we are also in a way taking the khadi products closer to society as a whole. This may also encourage them to change their lifestyle in a much healthier and natural way,’’ he says.

The expo also has facilitated a platform for a series of interactive lectures by health experts from different parts of the state.

‘’The lectures focus on healthy diet patterns and summer refreshments,’’ he says. The lectures commence at the expo floors ever day at 5 pm. ‘Urukunna Venalilum Arogyavasantham’ will conclude on March 15. Timing:10 am to 5 pm.
