District panchayat officials initiated punitive action against some doctors of Aluva District Hospital, including hospital superintendent Surya Devarajan on Friday.
The action was initiated for gross negligence shown to a patient who had come to the hospital for child delivery on Thursday.
According to the patient’s husband Shameer Nanthiaparambil, of Ashokapuram, his wife Hayarunnisa, 28, was brought to the hospital in the wee hours of Thursday, but there was nobody to attend to her even after the maternity ward was apprised of the situation.
He was asked to take the patient to Ernakulam District Hospital.
Eventually, Shameer and relatives decided to admit her to one of the private hospitals, and the baby was born around 4.45 am.
