Social Worker and Actor Call off Fast at Guruvayur

GURUVAYUR: Social worker Uma Preman and actor Sivaji Guruvayur have called off their indefinite fast here on Wednesday afternoon which was conducted seeking completion of Guruvayur Sewage Scheme (GSS) in a scientific manner with expert supervision.

Organisers of the fast said that medical condition of Uma had deteriorated and she was first shifted to Rajah Hospital here and then was taken to Unity Hospital in Kunnamkulam for further treatment.

 Uma had been fasting till Saturday morning and was arrested and shifted to Chavakkad Taluk Hospital on Monday afternoon.

Even though she was kept on drip at the hospital, she continued her fast till Wednesday. It is reported that while she was being taken to Medical College Hospital for check-up in Thrissur on Wednesday morning, she told about having chest pain and was taken to Rajah Hospital.

Chavakkad Tahsildar V A Mohammed Rafeek met her at the hospital and conveyed to her that the state government would ‘hopefully meet her demands like appointing an expert like E Sreedharan for the scientific implementation of the GSS, a project that envisages a permanent solution to the sewage issue in the temple town of Guruvayur.As a person, who had donated one of her kidneys as part of her charity work, it is learnt that the district administration was keeping a close watch on the developments and tahsildar intervened before Uma’s health condition got further worse.
