Faithful Visit St Euphrasia's Tomb at Ollur

THRISSUR: Special prayers and celebrations marked the canonisation of Sr Euphrasia at all the parishes under the archdiocese of Thrissur on Sunday.

Thousands of devotees visited the tomb of Sr Euphrasia in Ollur in Thrissur and took part in special prayers and Holy Masses held at the St Mary’s convent, where the saint lived for four years and died in August 1952.

Auxiliary Bishop of Archdiocese of Thrissur Raphael Thattil led the Holy Mass at the convent and also crowned the idols of both Sr Euphrasia and Fr Kuriakose Elias Chavara.

The faithful also watched the canonisation ceremony held in Vatican on a big screen set up at the convent.

In the morning, the Christian Life Community here took out a procession from Kattoor, the home town of Sr Euphrasia, to the St Mary’s Convent. Thrissur Mayor Rajan J Pallan attended the celebrations at the convent.

Hundreds of devotees also visited the house of  Sr Euphrasia’s relative at Aranattukara here and offered prayers at the room, where the nun had stayed for several years.

The faithful also took out processions in Kunnamkulam, Chelakkara, Kaipamangalam, Kariyattukara and other places, as a part of   canonisation celebrations.
