Violence in Kollam After KSU-SFI Clash

KOLLAM: The district on Tuesday witnessed a series of violent incidents following clashes between students belonging to SFI and KSU at DB College at Sasthamkotta on Monday.

The office of CPM Kunnathoor area committee was attacked by unidentified persons on Monday night following the clashes.

The CPM activists took out a march in protest against the attack. KSU activists attacked the SFI members who were on their way to reach Sasthamkotta to join the protest organised by the CPM.

Demanding the arrest of attackers, the SFI activists blocked the road at Bharanikkavu.

The police later arrested KSU activists who attacked the SFI men. Later, the march took out by the CPM men Sasthamkotta junction turned violent and police resorted to lathi charge. Several activists and policemen were injured in the lathi charge and violence prevailed in the area for almost three hours.

Meanwhile, the Congress Bhavan at Bharanikavu was pelted with stones by an unidentified group and the glass window panes were shattered in the attack.

Clashes between SFI and KSU activists were reported from several areas in the district as the continuation of the DB College incident.

The SFI also observed a ‘class boycott’ protest in the district on Tuesday.

The window panes of the DCC office in Kollam were also shattered in stone pelting during a separate protest march taken out by the SFI which began from the SN College Junction.

DCC members took out a protest rally in the evening.  The KSU has called for a class boycott in the district on Wednesday.
