BBA Student Drowns in Dam

Express News Service

IDUKKI:A BBA student, who had been returning to Tamil Nadu after celebrating Onam, was found drowned in Anayirankal dam near Suryanelli here on Thursday. Samuel, 19, son of Gundumala Plantation labourer Kalayaraman and wife Gouri, went to the catchment area of the reservoir along with his ten friends to take bath at around 11 am.

According to reports, only two of them, including Samuel, dived into the water, but soon started drowning.  His friend, however, managed to swim out, but Samuel couldn’t as he did not know swimming. Other eight friends, who were on the bridge above, could not also rescue him.  The police and Munnar Fire Force, after a combined rescue operation that lasted almost two-and-half hours, found the youth’s body.
