Social Media Mourns Death of Dr Shanavas

NILAMBUR: The death of a doctor working among the tribals and the poor has shocked the beneficiaries of his philanthropic activities.  Vadapuram Pulichola native Dr P C Shanavas died on Friday night, reportedly due to cardiac  arrest.

The social media had extended huge support to the efforts of Dr Shanavas to distribute medicines and food to the tribal people.

The doctor, who had earned accolades for his  philanthropic activities  in the tribal areas, was in the news recently in connection with several controversies.

His open fight with the Health Department had gained much public attention. Subsequently, Dr Shanavas was transferred to Kanjirappuzha in Palakkad district as part of a disciplinary action and was transferred again to another health centre in Palakkad district.

The back-to-back transfers had disturbed the doctor and he had expressed it through his Facebook posts.

Notes of protests appeared in several Facebook pages soon after the news of the doctor’s demise came out, demanding action against health officials. Condolence messages are flooding the Facebook wall of Dr Shanavas.

His funeral will be held on Sunday at Vadapuram.
