Wetland Act to be Amended

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government plans amendments to Kerala Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2008, for enabling it to take over paddy land that have been illegally  converted for other uses, Revenue Minister Adoor Prakash said on Thursday.  By amending the law, the government also proposes to add provisions for appeal so that land can be correctly classified after visits, he said, replying to questions in the Assembly.  The proposed amendments are meant to plug loopholes in the law. Agriculture officers have identified 7,294 cases of illegal filling of paddy land and registered cases. Officials have identified 7,134 cases and  vehicles were seized in 230 instances, he said.
