THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Malayalam movie Kaliyachan, which won many state and national laurels, will finally hit the sliver screen on August 14.
Filmmaker Farooq Abdul Rahiman, who was engaged in efforts to get his debut movie released for the past three years, told ‘Express’ on Thursday that the producer of National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) had finalised the date for Kaliyachan’s theatrical release. “It’s official now. The movie will be released on August 14,” Rahiman said. ‘Express’ had, through a series of reports, highlighted the filmmaker’s plight and the efforts to get his film released.
Rahiman had recently launched an e-mail campaign through FB to persuade NFDC to release the film. The official e-mail ID of the NFDC managing director was “bombarded” with thousands of e-mails in support of the movie.
Besides winning the best debutant director award for Rahiman, Kaliyachchan also bagged two other state awards - the second best actor award for Manoj K Jayan and the best background score for Bijibal. The music director also went on to win the national award for the film.
Kaliyachan was screened in the competition section at the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) in 2013 and also in the River to River Florence Indian Film Festival in Italy. “At that time, the film had earned such rave reviews. I was hopeful that a movie which had generated such great interest would soon be released soon before a wider audience,” Rahiman said. But the director had to wait for three years as NFDc was hit by a fund crunch.
Rahiman’s e-mail campaign had also received the backing of the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) and the Kerala Film Producers Association.
