In a judgment, the first of its kind in a case relating to the solar scam which rocked the state government for the links with high profile politicians,the Pathanamthitta Magistrate Court (One) has found con woman Saritha Nair and her partner Biju Radhakrishnan guilty of fraud.
The court, which sentenced them to three years cumulative rigorous imprisonment, has also asked Saritha to pay a fine of Rs 45 lakhs and and Biju to pay Rs 25 lakhs. The duo have been found guilty of forging documents and signatures to get contracts for installing solar panels.
Saritha has been given bail and need not have to go to prison while Biju is undergoing life imprisonnemnt in the case of murdering his first wife Resmi. The case was given by Baburaj of Aranmula, from whom the duo had taken Rs 1 crore 19 lakh to provide solar panels.
Three staff members of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy were sacked as it was found that they had maintained links with Saritha Nair in the scam which surfaced in June 2013.
