Government to Launch Start-Up Box Prog

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Giving a boost to its entrepreneurship drive, the state government will launch a Start-Up Box programme with the Kerala Start-up Mission (KSUM) for aspiring entrepreneurs in the state.

The Start-up Boxes, numbering 40 in the first phase, will comprise the vital gadgets for mobile application developers to get started such as MacBook, iPhone, Google Nexus, Kindles, and Arduino starter kit.

“This will enable entrepreneurs and start-ups to advance above the state-of-the-art and create innovative technology products,” says P H Kurian, Principal Secretary, Industries and IT.

While the programme has been originally designed to distribute start-up kits to various technology and industry verticals, this year it is kicking off with boxes for mobile applications through start-up village’s FinTech programme.

“This is a radical step in the state’s technology start-up policy,” says C Jayasankar Prasad, CEO, KSUM. “The Start-Up Box programme will motive start-up entrepreneurs to attempt new and innovative products by creating varied applications in different platforms,” he says. KSUM is also providing evangelisation support through Technology Innovation Fellows, who will organise evangelisation workshops by tying up with Google, Microsoft, Apple and Amazon.

KSUM is also arranging for Apple-accredited training centres to support developers.
