Harvest in Chithira Kayal Land Today

ALAPPUZHA: The district administration is all set to conduct harvest in the Chithira kayal land in Kuttanad on Sunday after 20 years. The Chief Minister will inaugurate the harvest at Chithirapally in Kainakari panchayat. Agriculture Minister K P Mohanan will preside over the function. Thomas Chandy MLA will felicitate farmer Jose Joe Venganthara, who took steps to revive farming in the barren land. MPs K C Venugopal and Kodikunnil Suresh will speak, said District Collector N Padmakumar who spearheaded the initiative. 

About 100 acres in the Chithira paddy field were cultivated after 20 years.  The land which was reclaimed by Kayal King Murickan was barren due to encroachments by mussel miners. The District Administration and Agriculture Department had initiated steps to begin farming in the barren Chithira land.
