Sudarsan Patnaik to Lead Fest

 ALAPPUZHA:Internationally famous sand artist Sudarsan Patnaik will lead the eight-day long International Sand Art festival in Alappuzha from April 18, K C Venugopal MP has said.

The MP said that this is the first time the state is hosting the sand art festival. The State Tourism Department in association with Sand Art Festival (SAFA), Alleppey Foundation will organise the programme at Alappuzha beach.

Sand artists across the world will build sand arts in the beach. An art gallery will be set up in the 5 acre beach. The festival will help garner more attention to the famous Alppuzha beach, he said. 

“Sand art competitions will be arranged,” said District collector N Padmakumar. “People with a bent for sand art can take part in the event. The students of reputed fine arts colleges will also be invited to be part of the fest. A total of 10 teams can participate in the first edition of the competition. There will be eight Indian teams and two foreign teams,” he added.
