Asmo Puthenchira's Body to be Brought Home Today

KOCHI: The mortal remains of the noted Malayalam poet Asmo Puthenchira  will be bought to his native place from UAE on Wednesday. The funeral will be held later.  The 63-year-old had passed away following a cardiac arrest in Abu Dhabhi on Monday. He is survived by wife Rasiya. Born to Ummer and Ayisha, at Puthenchira near Kodungalloor, Areepurath Syed Muhammed alias Asmo had been staying in the UAE for over four decades.

Holder of a diploma in electrical engineering, he was running his own business. His poems which reflected the love for humanity which crossed the borders, reached the readers from the late seventies. Though Asmo had penned a number of poems during this period, “Chirikkuruthi”,his first anthology of poems, was published  only last year.  He was on the preparations of his second book.

Asmo was active in all the literary and cultural platforms in UAE since 1974 and on social media including Facebook. He had  played a crucial role in the formation of ‘Kolaya’, a literary platform associated with the Kerala Social Centre Abu Dhabi. He had won several awards.

His mortal remains were kept in the mortuary of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khalifa Hospital where hundreds of art lovers and friends paid their last respect.
