Deceased Athlete's Mother Rejects SAI Chief’s Job Offer

Express News Service

ALAPPUZHA: Geetha Ramabhadran, mother of the deceased athlete Aparna, has rejected the offer of Sports Authority of India (SAI) Director General Injeti Srinivas to appoint her as a contractual staffer of the Sports Authority of India.  Geetha stated that she didn’t want a contract job as there was every chance for getting fired when the  media attention into issue wanes.

“My daughter had joined SAI with the expectation of a better future for herself and the family. But, she took the extreme step due to unbearable mental and physical torture from the part of senior students,” she said.

“If SAI can offer me a permanent job, I will accept it. Contract job is an eyewash to escape from the present crisis,” Geetha Ramabhadran added.  “Some of the members of the Rowing Association exhorted us not to tell anything against SAI. They told us that SAI was ready to meet our needs. I suspect that they were sent by the SAI authorities,” she said.

The parents of the other three girls, who attempted suicide, have demanded a CBI probe into the issue the other day.

Meanwhile, Alappuzha Medical College Hospital authorities said that the condition of the girls, who are undergoing treatment, are improving.
