18 Firms Show Interest in IE Post at Vizhinjam Seaport Project

Eighteen firms have shown interest in the post of Independent Engineer (IE) for the Rs 7525 crore Vizhinjam Seaport Project.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Eighteen firms have shown interest in the post of Independent Engineer (IE) for the Rs 7525 crore Vizhinjam Seaport Project. Sixteen companies including several global firms attended a ‘Pre-proposal Conference’ organised here on Wednesday as part of selecting the Independent Engineer for the project.

The firms include -- AMT Australian Marine Technology, TUV India, L&T Infrastructure, Tata Consulting, Egis India, AECOM India and Tata Projects, Maritimus, BMT India, Haskoning DHV India, Worley Parsons, Mott MacDonald, STUP Consultants, i-maritime, COWI India and HILL International.

Two other firms -- Engineers India Ltd and Lahmeyer -- have responded to the RFQ but were not present in the meeting, officials of the Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd said.

The government invited bids for the post of ‘Independent Engineer’ on September 21. The Independent Engineer is a team consisting of port expert, civil engineer, mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, geotechnical engineer and environmental expert. The mandate includes inspection and monitoring of construction works and documents, issuing completion and provisional certificates, and determining the costs of various works or services. This team will also have a crucial say in the extension of dates. The last date for submitting applications for the post is October 21. Selection will be based on the procedures given in the concession agreement signed between the govt and Adani on August 17.
