Teachers' Protest Hits SSLC Valuation

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Work at the SSLC eamination valuation camp at Attakulangara school in the state capital was disrupted for a few hours on Friday after reserve teachers who were requisitioned for duty staged a protest at the camp.According to Director of Public Instruction (DPI) M S Jaya, though 300 teachers were required for valuation duty at Attakulangara school, the Education Department had called in an additional 100 teachers to make up for the absentees.

“We decided to deploy extra teachers at all centres this year as acute shortage of teachers at the valuation camps was reported last year. Teachers who have been avoiding valuation duty for the last three years were asked to report at the centres,” the Director of Public Instruction said.

The teachers who were called in as reserve teachers protested at the centre complaining that they were not assigned any work.

After an assurance from the DPI that their attendance would be recorded and their Travel Allowance paid, the teachers ended their protest.The valuation of SSLC answer scripts which began on Friday will be held till April 16 at 54 camps set up across the state.
