LPG Vehicles Should be Fitted with ABS: HC

Express News Service

KOCHI:  The High Court has observed that vehicles carrying LPG cylinders should be fitted with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), as stipulated under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules. Justice Shaji P Chaly issued the order while considering petitions challenging the refusal by the Motor Vehicle Authority to register/renew fitness certificate of vehicles on the ground that they were not fitted with ABS. The petitioners submitted that vehicles belonging to them were having ‘goods carriage’ permit, with permission to carry all kinds of hazardous goods. The court stated that the stipulation was brought into the Rules with the laudable objective of ensuring public safety on roads, by employing advanced braking system on vehicles transporting hazardous goods like LPG.
