Express News Service

KOCHI: The Muvattupuzha Vigilance Court on Thursday ordered the VACB to conduct a quick verification against six persons, including secretary and officials of the Muvattupuzha municipality, on a complaint alleging corruption in granting permit for construction of a shopping complex. The inquiry was ordered based on a complaint filed by former municipal counsellor M K Dileep.

As per the order, municipal secretary Shibu, ward overseer Gireesh, assistant engineer Balakrishnan, assistant executive engineer Sivaprasad, building designer Sivaprasad V K  and K P Kuriakose, a private person, will be facing probe.

As per the complaint, Kuriakose allegedly trespassed into a land owned by the municipality, and a notice was served directing him to vacate the land. However, he obtained a stay from the municipality in 2014 and submitted a plan for constructing a shopping complex on the encroached land. Instead of taking action against Kuriakose, the officials of the municipality issued a permit for the building, in violation of the Kerala Building Rules, the complaint stated.
