KOZHIKODE: Malayalam scriptwriter T A Razzaq passed away on Monday. He was undergoing treatment for liver ailment at a private hospital in Kochi for over a month.
Razzaq's film career began in the late 1980s, when he started work as an assistant director of the film Dhwani. Later, Razzaq made his contributions in areas including script, story and dialogue for nearly 30 Malayalam movies. As a scriptwriter his notable films include Kanakinavu, Ghazal, Perumazhakalam, Aayirathil Oruvan and Thalolam. Aakasham is the only movie for which he penned lyrics.
Razzaq was a recipient of the Kerala State Film Award for best story thrice -Kanakkinavu (1996), Aayirathil Oruvan (2002) and Perumazhakalam (2004) - and best screenplay for Kanakkinavu.
Razzaq had worked with directors Sibi Malayil, Kamal, Jayaraj,
G S Vijayan and V M Vinu. "I would say the best of my films were born out of my collaboration with Razzaq. Whichever director collaborated with him would have had a
similar experience," said Chairman of Kerala State Film Academy, Kamal. "Razzaq had left while creating own space in Malayalam film industry," he added. His brother T A Shahid, also a writer, had passed away a few years ago.
