Music Director Rajamani no More

CHENNAI/KOCHI : Noted music director Rajamani, 60, died in Chennai on Sunday night. He is the son of musician L Chidambaranath. Rajamani entered Malayalam cinema as a music director through the movie ‘Nulli novikkathe’. So far, he had rendered music to more than 70 films in Malayalam and other languages. It will be for the stylish background music that Malayalis will remember Rajamani. His real breakthrough were through the superhit Shaji Kailas movies of 1990s like Ekalavyan, Commissioner, The King, Aram Thampuran and Narasimham. He had won the state government award for the background music for the movie Aram thampuran. He is the disciple of music director Shyam.

Like Shyam, who was known as a BJM specialist in Malayalam cinema, he has also given some outstanding songs for some popular characters by the superstars.  For the third and fourth edition of the CBI series, it was Rajamani who remixed the CBI theme actually composed by Shyam for the first two parts.  Likewise, some of the hit songs rendered by him include Rathrlillikal and Nandakishora Hare (Ekalavyan). His last film in Malayalam was Hide and Seek, for which he had rendered music to the lyrics penned by ONV, who passed away the other day. Rajamani also enacted a major role in the movie Gulmohar.
