THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State Youth Affairs, Sports and Industries Minister E P Jayarajan said on Wednesday that the government’s sports policy would be announced soon.
He said this in his reply speech to the Demands for Grants which was tabled in the Assembly following the stalling of the proceedings by the Opposition on Wednesday.
Multi-purpose indoor stadiums would be constructed in all districts. A detailed project report would be prepared and submitted to the KIFB. The formalities in that regard would be completed by December 31.
An amount of Rs 500 crore would be set apart for the project. The project envisaged a playground in every panchayat, he said.
Thirty-one mini stadiums would be constructed this fiscal at a cost of Rs 5 crore each under the special investment plan. Ailing sportspersons’ pension would be unified at Rs 2,000; Rs 15 crore had been earmarked for the Kerala Sports Development Fund.
One MBBS seat each would be reserved for sportspersons in every medical college;
Rs 36 crore would be allotted for the FIFA Junior World Cup to be held in Kochi next year.
Cash awards would be given to the best sports club participating in the Keralolsavam.
The Sports Ministers Infrastructural Leap towards Excellence (SMILE) scheme envisaged all-round development of sports, he said. Shuttle courts and swimming pools were being planned under the SMILE scheme.
The Kerala Play field Association had been formed with the aim of protecting playgrounds.
Steps had been completed to provide jobs to the medal winners of Kerala in the 35th National Games at the government and PSU level.
He said the anomalies in the government order in that regard would be rectified. Steps had been initiated to provide employment to 249 vacancies that fell vacant during 2010-14.
Elite training scheme would be implemented to ensure medals for Kerala sportspersons in the 2020 and 2024 Olympics.
