Actor Sreejith Ravi granted conditional bail in 'flashing' case, asked to surrender passport

A local court in Palakkad granted conditional bail Sreejith Ravi, who was arrested for allegedly exposing his private parts to a group of school-going girls

PALAKKAD: A local court here at Palakkad on Friday granted conditional bail Sreejith Ravi, popular Malayalam film actor and son of cine actor T. G. Ravi, who was arrested for allegedly exposing his private parts to a group of school-going girls at Ottappalam in Palakkad. 

The Sessions Court magistrate granted conditional bail to the actor and asked him to sign at the Ottapalam Police station at every Thursday in a week. He was also ordered to surrender his passport and execute a bond for Rs. 1 lakh with two sureties. 

The police recorded his arrest on Thursday night on a complaint filed by a private school principal in Ottappalam. Though police invoked provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, which is non-bailable, Section 509 of the IPC (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), Section 354A of the Indian Penal Code (Sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment) and various provision under the Kerala Police Act to arraign the actor, the court granted him conditional bail, said police.

He was taken into custody from a shooting location at Pallavaur in Palakkad by the police on Thursday following the complaint of the school principal. According to the complaint, a group of students reported to the school principal that the actor who was sitting in a car, showed his private parts to the students when they walked past the car and he allegedly took snaps of the girl students and passed lewd comments.

However, they didn’t mention the name of the actor in the petition, other than giving the registration number of the car in which he was sitting, to the police. He was taken into custody after the police confirmed the car mentioned in the complaint belonged to him. Besides, the students who gave their statements to the police confirmed the identity of the actor.
