Man kills 6-year-old son, surrenders

KOCHI: In a gruesome incident, a six-year-old boy was allegedly murdered by his father at Kodanad.

The Kodanadu Police on Tuesday arrested Babu, 37, of Vellaplavil Veetil, Meembara, in connection with the incident. The deceased has been identified as Vasudev.

Earlier, the police had launched an inquiry after Babu's wife Rajimol lodged a complaint on Sunday stating that her husband and son were missing.

Meanwhile, Babu presented himself at the police station on Tuesday and confessed to have killed Vasudev. According to the police, after murdering  his son, Babu dumped the body in a deserted area near his house.

Babu told the police that he murdered the boy by hitting him on the head, as the family had been facing serious financial crisis. After committing the crime, Babu reportedly made a failed attempt to commit suicide. After that, he left the State and stayed in different places, including Tirupati, for four days.

Senior police officials, including Rural SP P N Unnirajan visited the spot. The police filed a case against Babu, and sent the body for postmortem.
