THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Jishnu Pranoy’s mother Mahija, sister Avishna and other relatives called off their indefinite strike after the mediation talks by Special Prosecutor C P Udayabhanu and state Attorney K V Sohan.
A ten-point agreement was signed between the government representatives and Mahija after the five-hour-long meeting.
The assurances by the government include arrest of the absconding accused and a proper examination of the family’s complaint against the police regarding Wednesday’s untoward incidents near the state police chief’s office.
In their joint address to the media on the Medical College Hospital premises, Udayabhanu, Sohan and Mahija’s brother Sreejith said Mahija had ended the fast by drinking water.
Sohan also spoke to Avishna over phone, urging her to stop the fast as the government had agreed to their demands. During the mediation talks, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan spoke to Mahija over phone and promised earnest efforts by the government and police to nab the accused.
The chief minister reportedly assured her that action would be taken against police personnel if lapses were found in the incident in which Mahija and family members were prevented from visiting the state police chief.
The government counsel told reporters that the family was given an assurance that justice would be delivered to some others who were arrested in connection with the incident near the DGP office.
The family told us K M Shajahan and self-styled godman Himaval Bhadrananda were not invited by them. Ahead of their visit to the capital, they had contacted SUCI leader Shajar Khan and wife Mini for arranging accommodation here,” Udayabhanu and Sohan said.
They said the conspiracy charge against Shajar Khan, Mini and another SUCI leader Sreekumar ceased to exist. However, they did not mention about Shajahan. The news of the arrest of third accused N K Sakthivel too prompted the family to end the protest. Two other accused - C P Praveen and Deepan - are still at large.
