THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After a week-long agitation demanding the arrest of all the culprits responsible for the death of her son, Jishnu Prannoy's mother Mahija on Wednesday said the family had finally got justice.
Speaking to media persons at the Medical College Hospital here, Mahija said she and her relatives were returning to Kozhikode with the belief that their agitation was a success.
Jishnu Prannoy, a student of Nehru College of Engineering, Pampady, in Thrissur, was found dead after alleged harassment by the college authorities. The accused, most of who were on the run, were arrested after Mahija launched the agitation.
Mahija, and Jishnu's uncle Sreejith were admitted to the Medical College Hospital here after they were arrested, along with a few others, for protesting in front of the State police chief’s office on April 5, demanding justice.
"I participated in the agitation for the sake of my sister," Sreejith said.
Mahija had been on an indefinite fast at the hospital, which was later called off after the government assured them that most of their demands would be met.
Late on Tuesday, chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan's office said that he will meet Mahija at his office her on Saturday to listen to her grievances.
CM Vijayan’s office also said that a copy of the agreement with Jishnu’s family, based on which Mahija's agitation was called off, has been handed over to them.
However, Jishnu Prannoy's family has said that they have not received any intimation about the meeting. They claimed that they were provided with only a broad outline of the agreement instead of the fine points.
