PALAKKAD: The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has sought an explanation from the Kerala government over a district administration order that asked RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat not to hoist the national flag during the Independence Day celebration at a school here.

The explanation has been sought from the Chief Secretary based on a petition filed by BJP district president E Krishnadas.

In his memorandum to the Prime Minister,  Krishnadas said there was a blatant misuse of the state machinery to scuttle the Independence Day celebrations at the school, which is run by a trust.

Mohan Bhagwat was invited to the school as part of its golden jubilee celebrations and the convenient date happened to be the Independence Day. The attempt of District Collector P Marykutty to serve a notice on the headmaster of the school was against law, he said.
