KOCHI: The month of February began with a bonanza for the bookworms of the state - the Kerala Literature Festival (KLF), which began at Kozhikode beach on Thursday.

Literature enthusiasts from the district and all over the state are arriving in the city to make the most of the big opportunity presented before them.

A string of cultural events including seminars, discussions and interviews have been arranged at the four stages which have been set up at the beach. Over 300 literary figures, participating in the festival, will be sharing their views and ideas with the public.

Some of the famous literary figures who will grace the festival are Ramachandra Guha, Shashi Tharoor, Sara Joseph, Sudhir Kakar and Romila Thopar. Almost ten authors from abroad including Quaisra Shahraz, Evald Flisar, Ari Sitas and Runo Isaksen are also taking part in the festival.

“At a time when open space for expression is shrinking, literature festivals play a significant role. We have tried our best to make the festival a successful one.

We don’t have infrastructure as that of Jaipur literature festival, but are much ahead of them in content,” said KLF director K Satchidanandan.
