KOCHI: In a setback to the Kerala Law Academy Law College (KLALC) and its principal Lakshmi Nair, a Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Tuesday declined to intervene in a plea seeking a directive to remove the sheds constructed on either side of the road leading to the Academy--the nucleus of students’ protest in the state, by the agitating students and political parties supporting them.
However, it directed the police to ensure free ingress and egress of the students, teachers and management representatives, if any complaint. The court issued the order on the petition filed by Lakshmi Nair, seeking to implement the earlier order of the High Court. The petitioner submitted that sheds were constructed by the agitators, on either side of the road leading to the main gate of KLALC from Peroorkada Junction.
The court had earlier directed police protection to be provided for the Academy.
The petitioner filed a complaint before the state police chief to remove the sheds to facilitate free ingress and egress to KLALC through the main gate. However, no action was taken on it. When the Academy was reopened on January 27, none of the students could enter the college.
The students union submitted that they were conducting the agitation peacefully and will not obstruct the entry of students to KLALC. The court recorded the submission of the students union.
