ALAPPUZHA: A remark about the epic Ramayana by Kerala CPM leader and public works minister G Sudhakaran has sparked off another heated discussion in the social media.
According to him, Ravan was more of a gentleman than Sita's husband Ram. The minister made the comment at an event in connection with World Environment Day.
“What is so gentle about Ram, who left his wife Sita with his brother in the dense forest? The act of Lakshman who abandoned his sister-in-law in the forest and went in search of a deer after listening to her words, was also not correct. However, Ravan behaved with her in a gentle and polite manner. After abducting Sita in a pushpaka vimanam he placed her under a Ashoka tree and never even tried to touch her. Present day Rams must be aware of these good qualities of Ravan,” said the minister.
He also advocated an award to be given to the Thiruvananthapuram girl who chopped a monk's genitals when faced with the threat of rape. “The girl's mother committed a serious mistake. How could she allow a monk to stay at her home, forgetting her grown-up girl? Women's organizations should be vigilant to these kinds of incidents,” he said.
