KOTTAYAM: Fr M O John and George Paul were elected the new priest trustee and lay trustee respectively of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church (MOSC) at the 37th Malankara Syrian Christian Association (MSCA) meeting here on Wednesday.

The victory of John and George Paul has surprised the church leadership as they defeated the official candidates of the church Fr Johns Abraham Konatt and Roy M Muthoot respectively in the election held at Mar Elia Cathedral here.

In the election to the post of priest trustee, John could retain his lead from the beginning to the end of the counting. Rev Joseph Samuel Cor Episcopa was also in the contest for priest trustee.  The results are expected to reflect in the election for the post of church secretary to be held a month later.  The MSCA meeting also ratified the nomination of 47 priest representatives and 94 lay members from various parishes to the managing committee.
