THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan tabled the report of the Justice Sivarajan Commission, which had investigated the Solar Scam, at a special session in the Assembly on Thursday, making the Congress bear many ignominious moments. While the UDF alleged the tabling of the report loaded with sleaze, rape and bribery charges —  including against Pinarayi’s predecessor Oommen Chandy — as political vendetta, the CPM hit back strongly.

In a damning 1,073-page report, the commission said former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and his office had gone out of the way to assist solar scam-accused Saritha Nair and her company Team Solar ‘to dupe customers.’ Putting Chandy in serious trouble, the commission sought action against him under the Prevention of Corruption(PC) Act for allegedly taking a bribe of `32 lakh from Team Solar.

Tabling the report along with the Action Taken Report (ATR) amid Opposition uproar, Pinarayi said the government wanted to ensure justice to all. The government created a history of sorts with the report being tabled in record time during a special sitting, a first in the annals of the House.
The Opposition UDF  raised serious charges of the Solar report being ‘corrected’ through an intervention from the Chief Minister’s Office.

Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala said a Home Department officer was sent to Justice Sivarajan’s residence after the report was submitted.  Further, the Opposition accused the LDF Government of trying to use the report for political vendetta.
