NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday secured from a court here five-day police custody of alleged ISIS operative Shajahan, a resident of Kannur in Kerala who was deported by Turkey in July.
The terror accused Shajahan Velluva Kandy alias Mohamed Ismail Mohideen, 32, is a resident of Darul Sharaf in Kannur. He is an accused in NIA case RC-12/2017/NIA/DLI.
During the five-day custody of Shajahan, the agency will subject him to custodial interrogation, NIA spokesperson Alok Mittal said in a statement.
The NIA had earlier re-registered the case FIR 44/2017 lodged on July 1 this year by the Special Cell of the Delhi Police.
Shajahan has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code including cheating, criminal conspiracy, and forgery among others besides the relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Passport Act.
"The accused Shajahan was arrested on July 1, 2017 at the IGI airport here on his deportation by the Turkish authorities. He is an ISIS operative who had gone to Turkey/Syria for carrying out terrorist activities after procuring an Indian passport in the fake name," added the NIA statement.
